I’ve always been a fan of Family Guy. Its often offensive, and the comedy has fluctuated over the years from good to mediocre, but the show’s still something I’ve always enjoyed. I love American Dad even more. It’s one of the few shows I can actually watch over and over. I’ve seen episodes from both series countless times.
Interestingly, I didn’t even like either one when they first launched. But my friends did, so I’d often sit and watch an episode with them. Both shows have been around most of my adult life. Oddly enough, they’ve carried me through some tough times in the ICU. I think the fact that both shows are so bizarre and far from reality is one of the reasons I like them. Hell, that’s why I tend to like fantasy, sci-fi and gaming – they’re pleasant escapes from the harsh realities we often have to deal with.
But American Dad and Family Guy are something special for me. A lot of times, I may not even really be watching an episode. You just pop it on, laugh at the over-the-top humor, and unplug. It’s great way to decompress after a long day’s work. I think that’s another reason I like Teen Titans Go! – all these shows are almost slapstick.
I love that.
It’s funny, because we have all these happy places or safe spots in our lives. Two of mine are:
1. My living Room.
2. My bedroom.
But really you could just say my house is one of my happy places. I’m currently going about the country as a travel nurse, so home can vary. But as the old saying goes, “home is where the heart is.”
I’m lucky to have a great home life. My home is my safe spot. And one of my favorite things to do is curl up with the wife at the end of the day, fire up some American Dad or Family Guy, and just laugh.
